Description
firstwordman store Vintage wringer-washer, mfg by Dexter circa 1940s You are bidding on an excellent example of a 1940s era Enterprise wringer washing machine manufactured by the Dexter Company in Fairfield, Iowa.  The Dexter Company was founded in 1894 in Dexter, Iowa and later moved to Fairfield, Iowa, in 1904. In 1936, it entered into partnership with the firm that manufactured the Nash-Kelvinator. The Dexter Company was purchased by Philco in 1954.As you can see from the pictures, this machine is one of the best on ebay.  It works perfectly as far as I can tell and is in overall excellent condition.  The rubber drainage hose needs to be replaced but I will do so for the winning bidder.  It only connects the pump to the discharge pipe.  The agitator is easily removed to allow of the cleaning of drain when necessary.  The wringer mechanism has a knob on top for tightening or loosening the wringers and it has a quick-release lever on both sides in case of emergency or if something gets stuck.I believe this machine could be used to wash clothes today and would likely do the job in a more environmentally friendly manner than today's washer/dryer combos.  It would be perfect for someone with limited space as well.  A dryer is available anywhere you can purchase a clothesline and a couple of posts to tie it to.There is no rust at all in the tub and only minor surface rust on the outside.  With a little elbow grease and car polish I believe it will shine. Please review the pictures and email me with questions.  Because of its weight, it is for local pick-up only.  If you live within 50 miles or so of Birmingham, I'll deliver it for $75.Enjoy the day.
