Description
This listing represents a first for me. Here you have a named WWII Navy Lieutenant Commander’s Blue Gabardine Wool Tunic with custom tailor’s label and Lieutenant Commander’s sleeve stripes. The Nudelman Brothers of Portland and Seattle tailored the tunic. There is also a Regulation Label above the tailor’s label. The blue tunic with double-breasted brass buttons is in near mint condition. I obtained a measurement of 20 inches armpit to armpit. The sleeves are 24 inches in length and the waist is 18 inches. The chest and waist measurements were taken with the tunic laid flat, so you ostensibly should double the measurements. The tunic has three pair of Naval Brass buttons down the front, one slash pocket at the chest and two larger lower slash pockets. The cuffs are straight. There is a full liner with two interiors pocket. There is an opening on the left side for the sword hanger (for dress events). There is a loop to hang it up. There are two thick stripes and one half size stripe at the cuff denoting the rank of a Navy Lieutenant Commander, the equivalent of an Army or Marine Corps Major. There is a star above the rank insignia that denotes a line or combat officer. The blue gabardine wool tunic is pressed and clean with no soiling or staining, fraying or signs of wear. Incredibly there is no moth damage that I can discern. There are ghosts where the ribbon bars were. There is a sewn nametag at the collar. The officer’s name appears to have been Robert G> Ccvgcon (from the letters I can make out). You might be able to research the tunic and there may be provenance. Named WWII items command a premium given the direct link to the veteran and the potential for provenance. This custom, named WWII Naval Officer’s Blue Gabardine Tunic with Lieutenant Commander’s Rank and tailor’s label in near mint condition would make a fabulous addition, upgrade and/or completion to a WWII Naval Officer collection. It would be a great piece for re-enactments, and also lends itself nicely for display, museums, and educational and theatrical presentations. I am listing a number of caps, uniform items, field gear, insignia, ribbons, home front items, etc., this week. Please do a seller-search using my username: martinolij to check it out. Thank you. Please read this section carefully for adhering to the terms of the listing as the winning bidder is entering into a legal contract. Payment in US Dollars is due within 11 days of the listing’s conclusion. I accept Pay Pal. Items will ship when the funds clear and are transferred to my bank account. Buyer in the States pays US Postal Service Priority Mail shipping with delivery confirmation/tracking slip. I will combine postage for multiple purchases. Where First Class Postage is offered, I insist on a padded bag so a delivery tracking slip can be used. The cost of First Class includes the padded pad. Tracking is mandatory for all Pay Pal domestic transactions. For Pay Pal purchases of $250 and larger, a signature return receipt/tracking and insurance are mandatory. If outside the States this will change. I ship world wide for all countries recognized by Pay Pal. Shipping options will be provided. Insurance and tracking on large size or large dollar items ($250 or over) are mandatory. Smaller items can be shipped easily, safely and affordably in a Global Priority Flat One Rate Envelope or First Class Mail International (the cost of the First Class includes a padded bag). Surface mail is not an option. International Bidders must pay in US Dollars. Pay Pal is the accepted method of payment. I save all Postal Service Receipts as well as copies of your payment as proof of delivery and completion of the transaction. The mail is not infallible and that is why insurance is available to you (your choice/option) for domestic and international transactions. It is your responsibility to understand and adhere to these terms. I have enjoyed interacting with buyers from four continents and dozens of countries. Many have been veterans, active duty GIs, home front family members in our war, authors, artists, teachers, museum curators, etc. You are encouraged to email with questions. I will try my best to answer all those that are received by Friday. (I am not always available on weekends when the items close.) If you perceive a discrepancy between the photos and description you should bring this to my attention for clarification before you bid. When bidding, consider what the item is worth and what you can afford. A winning bid represents a legal and binding contract. All winning bidders are required to provide contact information within three business days of the listing’s conclusion or the transaction can be voided and I will file a non-payment complaint. This means I need your full name and shipping address to validate you as the winning bidder. It is also a basic courtesy that is appreciated. Failure to pay will result in a Non-Payment Complaint and relisting of the item. Finally, recognize that most of these items are 62+ years old and typically will show some manifestation of age, time, removal of insignia (on uniform items), nips, etc that I may not catch. I am not infallible but work hard at offering comprehensive descriptions supported by photographs. I also can not guarantee that caps and uniform components will fit you so bid on them first as an artifact. I believe communication is the key to successful Ebay transactions. Thank You.
